Plants make great subjects for photographs. The best part about them is they generally don't run away just as you press the shutter (although they do occasionally get influenced by a breeze that makes them sway out of frame!). The other great thing about plants is that they tend to be quite beautiful. There's nothing like a flower in full bloom or an Autumn leaf at its peak color. I love to take photos of these perfect blooms and blazing fall foliage, but there are other opportunities for great pictures even when a flower or leaf is not at its "best". The photo on the left below shows a spring leaf about to unfurl, and a bud about to explode into color. Each part conveys a sense of anticipation. There are also great images to be captured of dried husks of plants long past their prime, or leaves that have withered into twisted brown shapes as they wait out the cold Winter to be resurrected again in Spring, like the ones to the right below. The challenge to taking photos of plants is to be at the right place on the right day, and to see surprising possibilities in otherwise drab subjects. I hope you enjoy these photos and have the opportunity to visit the entertaining locations where they were shot and experience them in person.
